This biennial event began in 1993, in Fremantle, Australia. Though primarily held in Australia, the conference has made past visits to the US: 2005 in Seattle and 2009 in Boston. We were happy to host this conference for its 10th installment in San Diego, California. While the main emphasis of the meeting has always been on fatigue in transportation, other sectors such as natural resources, mining, healthcare, and the military have been strongly represented. The cross-fertilization of research and programs has been a particular strength of our meetings in the past and was again in 2017.

The 9th International Conference on Managing Pavement Assets (ICMPA9) took place in the Washington, DC metropolitan area from May 18-21, 2015. The conference brought together pavement design and management engineers, companies specialized in providing pavement management services and data collection, researchers and specialists on asset/pavement management, general pavement/road engineers, planners dealing with the development of public works programs, and academics specializing in pavement design, analysis and management. The conference aimed to define the requirements for the "next generation" of pavement management tools need and to that effect it builds upon the following theme: "moving pavement management beyond the short-term: embracing innovation and addressing sustainability, accountability, and improved performance."
Date: September 15-18, 2014
Originally held in 2002, this conference built on the previous conference's accomplishments by combining the annual Road Profiler Users' Group meeting with discussions and presentations from other disciplines of non-destructive pavement evaluation. In addition to profiling, other topics of interest included texture and friction measurement, tire-pavement noise, ground penetrating radar (GPR), video distress rating, and structural testing. The conference welcomed representatives from government transportation agencies, academia, and private industry. It benefited end-users, operators, researchers, construction and design engineers, and manufacturers who have an interest in the equipment, methods, and use of non-destructive pavement evaluation. It was also highly recommended for consultants, contractors, and construction equipment developers who are in the business of meeting performance requirements for traveled surfaces.

The Virginia Pavement Recycling Conference provided a day and a half of the latest information about the pavement recycling disciplines of cold in-place recycling (CIR), cold central-plant recycling (CCPR), and full-depth reclamation (FDR) from industry experts across the U.S. The conference included topics such as: an overview of pavement recycling, implementing a pavement recycling program within a state agency, project selection, pavement design, laboratory mix design, quality assurance testing, ongoing research, and lessons learned. Attendees came away with a better understanding of pavement recycling and a greater appreciation for where these techniques can be implemented successfully. The end goal of the conference was to move Virginia's pavement recycling program forward by discussing the latest practices from across the United States.
