Andrew Kassing is a senior research specialist in the Infrastructure-Based Safety Systems group within the Division of Technology Implementation.

After receiving a B.S. in statistics from Virginia Tech, Andrew joined VTTI in 2016. His job functions include data analysis, troubleshooting data collection systems, data reduction, protocol development, and serving as an in-vehicle experimenter for human factors studies.

Andrew has been involved in studies relating to roadway lighting’s effect on melatonin production, driver behavior in adverse weather using SHRP 2 data, roadway lighting’s effect on pedestrian safety at intersection and midblock crosswalks, and the effectiveness of emergency lighting and retroreflective markings on law enforcement safety. He is currently working on a project exploring environmental factors affecting sign visibility and legibility relevant to vehicle vision performance.
