Laura Hamm is a Senior Research Associate in the Division of Vehicle, Driver, and System Safety at VTTI, where she focuses on the safety and mobility of vulnerable road users, including cyclists and pedestrians. Dr. Hamm is currently leading a pilot program to collect and analyze naturalistic data from cyclists with the goal of understanding dangerous bicycle-vehicle interactions and cyclist behavior under diverse environmental contexts. She is also leading a project in Virginia to incorporate new data sources into the calculation of level of traffic stress for pedestrians and cyclists.
Dr. Hamm's brings a unique combination of expertise in research and data analysis along with technical communication skills, having previously served as VTTI's Manager of Technical Writing and Editing. In this role, she played a critical part in developing research proposals, technical reports, and peer-reviewed publications, ensuring scientific rigor and clarity in disseminating research findings. Her interdisciplinary experience allows her to bridge the gap between complex technical content and practical applications, making her an asset in designing and executing research studies, interpreting data, and effectively communicating findings to diverse audiences. Dr. Hamm continues to collaborate with academic and industry partners to advance knowledge in transportation safety, infrastructure planning, and vulnerable road user protection.
