Dr. Xiaojian Jin is a Research Associate in the Division of Freight, Transit, and Heavy Vehicle Safety. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering with a focus on Human Factors from Purdue University in 2022, with a dissertation focused on human driver lane-changing precursors on highway. Prior to joining VTTI, Dr. Jin worked as a human factors engineer at Apple.Inc and Explico Engineering, and as an aircraft mechanic at Air China Airlines. Since 2015, he has been actively involved in a range of research projects spanning diverse domains, including consumer products, medical devices, aviation, and ground transportation. Currently at VTTI, Dr. Jin is conducting human factors research on the cybersecurity issues for automated driving systems equipped commercial motor vehicles (ADS-equipped CMVs), and human driver secondary task distraction on level 2 and level 3 vehicles. His primary research interest revolves around the interaction between ground transportation vehicles and the users around them. Dr. Jin strongly believes in applying human factors principles in product/system design to enhance overall efficiency, satisfaction, and well-being of the individuals involved.
